Ok, this is the problem...the link shows my HDD's and partitions as in Win 10 disk management.

I would like to delete Win 8 and reclaim the partion and merge it to the Win10_64 C: partition.

If I delete Win 8 then the PC will not boot no matter what, until I re-install Win 8 then the boot screen will show me either Win 10 or Win 8.

Dual and System Reserved (E:) both have boot information it would seem...

Have tried from msconfig and removing win 8 from the boot.ini file but that just removes it as a boot choice and not from the MBR.
also tried to rebuild the boot file from a command prompt...same problem no matter what
Same goes for EasyBCD...stuck, this is a problem I have never come up against before !

anybody know how without wiping the whole of C and starting from scratch if theres a way to sort this out and go back to single normal boot and thereby letting me format the Win 8 partition and reclaim that partition.

not sure what size the linked image will show at, but click "View Raw Image" and it will expand it.
I think you will need to use the Windows utility program BCDEDIT which allows editing of the Boot record data, necesssary because the data is in a binary format and is not editable with text based editors.

There is a very useful guide on how to go about doing this, available at:-

Caution, before you attempt changing the Boot record data it is advisable to make a copy using the BCDEDIT utility.
