Dozens Of Skype Calls

I use Skype only occasionally, almost always for calls to USA (family and friends). I'm used to receiving an increased number of 'request to add x to your contacts' shortly after I've made a call, but it's got beyond a joke at the moment; I'm getting six or more every day, usually from some unlikely name such as 'Gen P Lee'. I block and delete these immediately, but why would the number have increased so suddenly, and can I stop them coming?

Its a while since I've used Skype, but I think there is an option to block requests other than from your contacts.

Thanks Tuvok. Blocking them isn't so much of a problem, I would just like to know why the number has suddenly increased and whether I can stop them being generated in the first place.
