Onwards and Downwards Continues in August 2015

Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

The long hot summer holidays are here and I know some of you are entertaining young folk at home. This can make it tricky to keep an eye on your in-take. But here are some tasty kid friendly snacks that are also annoyingly healthy:

For a savory snack try this yummy looking lemon and coriander houmous served with chopped vegetable sticks or bread sticks:

These instant frozen berry treats look easy to make as well:

Even easier are these make your own spring rolls:

and you could swap in other veg and ingredients.

And of course, simply leaving out a plate of chopped up veg and fruit like apples, carrots, cucumber and grapes, can seem to disappear without them even noticing they are eating healthily ;-)

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Here is last months thread

sympathies OG I agree about the water and when it gets boring add a dash of low sugar cordial. When you're shopping buy a few things for these very moments. Like a ounnet of strawberries or an apple, or a few low fat snacks. If you don't have anything you're more likely to eat something inappropriate! Otherwise its a case of finding a distraction if just a walk...

13st 2.5 lbs this morning on the scales. I should meet the weeks target of 13.2 on my next scheduled weigh-in on Friday. I think it was the too-tight jacket I bough a while back in a size I know used to fit me which prompted the diet.

14st, 1.5 lbs 17-7-’15
13st 13lbs 25-7-’15
13st 9.5lbs 31-7-’15
13st 6.5 07-8-’15
13st 4lbs 14-8-’15
Stayed the same AGAIN but better than a gain. SANDY you have a nice steady loss there .nice to be able to fit in to your jacket especially if it was a favourite one .
Maydup you have done so well I need to take a leaf out of your book .
That's a good steady loss Sandy. We like that rather than a big loss which is usually put back on quite quickly. Your motivation is a good one.
Keep up the good work.
Og before a meal if I get peckish too early I have a glass of water or I am inclined to eat too early at lunchtime then get hungry early for dinner
That water bit works for me too.
Well done Sandy, that's nearly a stone in just four weeks!
sympathies OG

Excellent tips Maydup.
Cheers. I'll have to drink more no cal squash :-)
Good morning All,

Yuk just the same. I have some swelling in my leg and foot and expect that accounts for it, well that's what they told me at rehab so I'll take their word for it.

How's the squash going OG. I started on it too. I must have a look at what's in it. It tastes too good so must be not so good for me. :-))
To be honest I drink enough of it (using it as a no cal but tasty i.e. sweet water) anyway so I've not upped the intake of it any. I need to buy more and was somewhat annoyed I forgot to get some as Sainsbury's last Sunday (may be my imagination but I think theirs taste a little less chemical like that some other brands).

That said back down 0.8 lbs this week, which was unexpected since I'm still on (and likely to remain so) 3 day weekends but maybe the old body simply decided it was having a laugh last Wednesday.

Good luck with reducing the swelling x, I'm sure that must be the cause of the lack of loss. And good luck to all others too for thos week's weigh-in.
Morning all forgot to weigh this morning .But I don't think I have gained .
OG what squash are you having although it says low cal it can still have loads of sugar .
I just checked out my Ribena blackberry light and it seems OK.

HOT NEWS: I just took my first walk (with walker) outdoors alone. It was just a 7 min. walk but still unbelievable!
In May all I could move was my head and arms and could do nothing for myself and was looking at a recovery period of one to two years.

Well,done xstitcher . I must have a look at that drink .
Hi Wend. I get the no added sugar range by Sainsbury's. Values vary slightly from flavour to flavour but all are next to nothing per glass.

Good for you x. We'll have you running around the block in no time.
I meant black currant.
