Good Evening everyone, Hope all are well.
I am in a quandary - I have my eye on x3 pieces of furniture at a local auction house for tomorrow mornings sale, and have no van to collect if I win them.
I have contacted a couple of man & Van/ small furniture moving firms whom are local and they say they might be able to collect them tomorrow at short notice should I win the lots.

My question is; Should I bid on the items and hope that they are telling the truth and risk being lumped with a chest of drawers/ desk & music cabinet which I can't shift on time if they are not available, or should I just 'go with the flow', bid on them and trust my luck?

What would you do? Have you been in this situation before?
(unfortunately I have no back up plan should the items become mine and none of the delivery companies keep their promise to be available...
Hmmm.... )
To explain, OH is away for x2 weeks and I am decorating/ re-furnishing his office as a nice surprise (I hope)
Thank you in advance for any advice.

Does the auction house know of anyone ? This must happen all the time, so they can probably recommend someone.

Go for it - rope in a few friends - there are some places that will hire a van for a few hours.
Most auction houses have details of such facilities, if not providing them themselves. Be prepared to pay high price though. Do you know the auction house's rules for clearance and/or storage ?
Do you know whether this service is available there ?

Cheers Guys, I've asked the auction house and they recommended x3 possible Co's - one of which has just got back to me fortunately and have offered to help at short notice if I need which is great :-) (apparently he lives a few streets away from me too)
Fingers crossed! and have a good evening - Thank you x.
Every auction site I've ever attended has had recommended delivery services available for immediate use.

Go for it!
Good luck Peas
Any chance of an office warming party :-)
Best of luck with the bidding, Peas. What a nice thing to do for Mr. Peas.

ukbod - Lol - It's a tiny room so we'd all have to budge in a bit! :-)

He know's I'm up to something - it was previously 'the junk room' and has been for several years, but I have a borrowed wallpaper steamer and I intend to use it! (why, oh why have I never used one before - 'tis a miracle piece of kit!) Carpet is ordered for next week and sanding/ gloss work shall be done forthwith. I hope he likes it, but then again it can't turn out worse than the mess it is now :-)
Our local auction house has a delivery service yours Amy also do the same.
Let us know how you get on Peas. Great idea!

Peaspeculiars - I know it is a bit late, ( I have just found this website and registered ) but if you don't win your bids, try your local Freecycle group. You can always put a 'want' on there for any item, including for 'man with a van' as I have seen this in my local one. Good luck with your project, hope you finish it on time (and they don't turn up a day earlier than expected)and OH likes it!

Evening All - Just a quick update for those who are interested - I won the music cabinet and the desk but not the chest of drawers, and they are winging their way across to me on Monday via the local man&Van (plus mother in law whom is kindly coming over to let them in whilst I'm at work)(I'll buy her some nice flowers)
I also went on a local site as litlmissbuttons suggested (Thanks) and ended up with a great solid oak unit for the living room: (Not quite freecycle, but for £50 delivered, it's a bargain).

So cheers guys for all of your advice, am knackered from stripping wallpaper all day but should be able to carry on tomorrow and sand/ gloss/ wax before wall papering the office and seeing an end in sight! :-) Have a great weekend folks xx Peas
Thanks for the update Peas. Glad you managed to get the things you were looking for.
