/// He said: 'Just as we sat down inside the pub, I noticed the sign a few tables away from us. ///

Printed on a sheet of A4 and he could read it from a few tables away? Both this guy and his friend must have been to specsavers.

/// No, of course not aog. Typical DM story......small local event, blown out of all proportion. ///

You would wish this kind of thing to go unreported would you then mikey?

Typical of the anti-Daily Mail Brigade (Lefties) put your head in the sand and pretend it didn't happen.
AOG...this is just a small story, that should probably not have been known of outside of the local area where it happened. There is no indication that this is a widespread practise in other Wetherspoons, or that Wetherspoons were responsible in any way, which is why some of us has answered your first question by saying "no"

The DM has picked it up, as indeed you have, because its contains the magic word "Muslims"

A mountain made out of a very small molehill, but nice try !
Forgive my sceptism but I notice the complainant wished to remain anonymous.
If Wetherspoon's staff immediately removed the offending poster I doubt they would produce it to the Daily Mail to accompany the story.
Does the DM have an archive of these posters and the like?
It doesn't say in the story that the complainant,in between choking on his unconsumed sandwich, took a copy of the poster on his phone either.
Methinks mischief afoot here. No one from the spoons has corroborated there was a Muslim friend or made any other comment for that matter.
If an EDL supporter planted that poster you have to have begrudging respect for a neat ploy.
You use just one poster and let the Daily Mail distribute it to thousands of households. !! Lol

And how would you know that, you think that someone bothered to print just one copy of this leaflet and then picked one particular pub to post it in? Get real mikey.

/// The DM has picked it up, as indeed you have, because its contains the magic word "Muslims" ///

Oh, perhaps the Daily Mail also sent round one of their staff to post this leaflet as well do you?

/// A mountain made out of a very small molehill, ///

I don't know about Mountains and molehills, but perhaps "From little acorns great oaks can grow"

Yes that magic word, certainly gets the Left going, mainly in their defence.
I doubt the customer read all of it from a few tables away, but I have no doubt he could read the headline re Muslims, and so investigated further.

I have no doubt it was put up by one of those far right anti-foreigner groups with a poor taste of humour; and as folk say, not really the right place to attract the attention of many devote Muslims. But I suspect it was looking for non-Muslim support for their view against those who will not integrate, and who insist the country they have adopted as their homeland should change to reflect the one they (or a past generation of their family) came from. I also suspect many have an issue with that, but would not support such a blatant anti Muslim poster.

As most suggest, the pub can only react when it becomes known someone has put the poster up. And the customer appears to be over-reacting by a mile or ten. Wetherspoons are unlikely to have had it there knowingly, I would hope that not even the landlord or staff of this one pub knew. One wonders if the paper simply encouraged the outrage in order to fill a page.

'Bound to be on camera find them lock the up for exciting racial hatred give them a few years job done'

lol, thanks for that, Yasmin.

AOG, you're right, the Apologists and Sympathisers are always quick to react!
Only the Daily Wail comes out badly from this non-story.

They printed this poster and gave it national publicity, for the sole aim of selling their brand of muck stirring.

// exciting racial hatred //

Can't say I found it exciting but the artwork use was interesting. :-)
I find the story hilarious. Most hilarious of all is the alleged victim's reaction:

The 28 year old [yes, 28 year old, not 8] said "I only popped in for lunch which a friend from work who happened to be a Muslim, but we were so upset by it we were forced to leave."

What fragile little mites we seem to be breeding here in the UK. Of course, had they been around 100 or so years ago when Lord Kitchener's original poster was displayed they may have had something a little more pressing to be upset about.
"I couldn't finish my sandwiches"

bwaaah bwah bwah...
Well I'll try and answer aog's question:
No it isn't right to blame the chain of course for the actions of a few bigots, but I think the only person doing so is the person who saw it. And while of course he is over reacting i think such over reaction is probably understandable.
Ask him the same question next week and maybe he will have a more rational response.
The same might apply to many of the respondents to this question perhaps
Or perhaps not
The company isn't responsible - but I agree with the sentiment.
