Query On Dropped Kerb

We are thinking of applying for planning to extend our existing dropped kerb across the front of our house so we can get two cars on the drive. There is however a storm drain in the road located at about the middle of where we would want the extended drive to be. Do you think we would have to move it (potentially cost prohibitive) or, seeing as cars park over it now, we could we just drive over it. I appreciate the council will come and assess so we will know for sure, but I am just wondering if this is a non-starter.

I can't see a problem.Cars park on storm drain covers and we have drop kerbs all the way down our road with drains on the road in front of them,in fact, we do.
Don't think this a non-starter. You cannot be the first to have this done.

Do you mean a large Storm drain or just a road drain. If it's a Storm drain with a large aperture and steep sides it may cause you problems in negotiating from road to drain.

See what the council advises.

from 'road to drive' lol

It's just a road drain for the rain runoff.

Great, thanks for your input.
I can't see the storm drain gulley being a problem, Meg.

The main obstacle may be convincing County Highways that you need an extended dropped kerb. It all varies. They may not want to lose a parking space if the locality is busy. It's just a possibility, though.

Yes I am worried about that. I have a mainline station at the top of my road (1hr straight into the City of London) and people park there for the train. There's a fair amount of station parking but the local streets are an overflow. One neighbour got so fed up that she started a petition for resident-only parking a few years ago.

Have to see what they say I suppose.
