Often asked at the airport whether I packed the case myself, to which I have always answered truthfully - yes. MrAc also answers yes, although I have packed it for him. Should he answer 'no'?. He travels light, I take enough for a year so I use his luggage allowance. He probably has an idea what I've packed, but couldn't give a full itinerary.

If you answer "no" the next question, I would hazard a guess, would be "who did then?" If you he says it was his wife then I daresay the conversation will still end happily :-) Probably with a knowing look ...

It`s basically to make sure that somebody who is not travelling hasn`t put anything in the bag such as in this case https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindawi_affair

If I'm there on my own I take "you" to be second person singular. If I'm there with my family I take "you" to be second person plural, i.e. did we, as a family, pack our own bags?

Either way, I take the question as a slightly less threatening way of saying "Do you take full and total responsibility for the contents of these bags?" So if they open the bags and find 10 kilos of cocaine after I've said "Yes" to that question, that becomes my problem ...
