It's certainly 812, the paper version. It seems an odd clue, because surely deposition means adding a layer rather than removing one.
Chambers has one meaning of "deposition" as "removal"
Electroplating, a process that uses electrical current to reduce dissolved metal cations so that they form a coherent metal coating on an electrode
