Oh, hey, I just heard (years late!) about this guy called Anatoli Bugorski.

So he's doing some work on a Russian particle accelerator, when ...

A particle (a proton or something) travelling at close to the speed of light ...

Well, basically, shoots him in the face and straight through his head. At nearly the speed of light!

That's gonna leave a bruise in the morning.

Should this be in Science?

Or maybe anything that begins "Oh, hey, I just heard about ..." should, by definition, be in ChatterBank?

Naturally, being Russia, he was told not to say anything, to anyone. So, for years and years, he just didn't mention it. Not to anyone.

'Furthermore, the paralyzed side of his face is alleged to not age. This occurred in 1978 and Bugorski is still alive today, living near Moscow'

Would you risk it JJ?
not age?

I see a business opportunity. The full-body proton-beam treatment.
and if he told no one how did we find out ?

The site is by definition a 'gee thelma look at this ... ' site

and I thought the forever-young photo was wrongly labelled

and didja notice that that altho a Grey is a unit of absorption of energy -going in it was 2000 Gy and coming out it was 3000 Gy

so the beam gained energy as it went thro him and didnt deposit any
yes you are allowed to say - "that's a bit unlikely" - coz he was acting as a particle accelerator himself ( well his head was ) but was doubtless the reason they kept him on

and didja read 5 gy was lethal ?

well I had 45 gy over 5 d for tmt of my cancer in 1999 and I'm still here ....

Good read for a Tue am tho
// (This thread belongs in Science). //

no I think it should be in New Age "technology" and cosmology

I think the thread would belong in Science if it kicked off with any sort of explanation or query about what happened.

But it was more along the lines of ... Whooah! did you hear about this guy ...
Several million particles called Neutrinos pass through your body at close to the speed of light every second but we know nothing about it.

They are so small they have no effect.
quite a lot of them seem to have got stuck and remained around my hips, Eddie
Question Author
Ouch ... I just felt one, Eddie!

Are you sure they have no effect?

Owwwww, there goes another one.
perhaps you are confusing neutrinos and cappuccinos?
In Lidl there is a new line of choccy bicci-cinos

they'll certainly stay around your hips -

[science thread definitely]

It must be true, it's in Wiki.

Aah, but is it also in the Daily Mail?
