top_driver, I'm guessing that it's brake fluid that's leaked into the brake servo, if it is then you will have to remove the servo and clean it out. Don't forget brake fluid is pretty oily and it will leave a residue unless cleaned out properly.

Ye it is brake fluid. I was hoping you weren't going to say that. I was hoping that over time the engine will just suck it in. It a bmw e46.
You maybe better off just changing it, you'll get a decent second hand one from one of the online breakers yards.

good things do happen. i had car running and pressed brake repeatedly. after plenty misfire it stopped. the leak was caused by changing brakes and forgetting to open reservoir cap.
Ah a bit of luck there then, top_driver.

Haha but im not out of the woods yet as I still have to discover why I lost 2 litres of oil 100 miles after a service hahaha
Well it as got have leaked out or it's been burned !.

Ye im hoping it is a leak I will have to take tray off and look for oil. If not I will have to get something to to stop it burning.
Also have a look at the wells were your spark plugs are, I've know'n cam cover gaskets to leak and sometimes the oil runs into the spark plug wells.
You can clean out your brake fluid leak residue with brake Cleaner which should dry it out quickly. Mind you brake fluid left uncleaned will strip off the paint and corrode the panels.
You have not "lost" 2 litres of engine oil, most of it is in the oil filter housing.
Most manufacturers give 2. Oil change capacities a lower figure without oil filter change and a high figure with the oil filter change.
Unless of course your engine was losing oil before this oil change.
