During tonight's Countryfile, there was a piece on the potato. Apparently they are over farmed therefore a gut has accumulated. The potato council want us to eat more fresh potatoes.
How often do you eat potatoes and are they expensive where you buy them ? I think the price has risen , if there were a glut, would they not become cheaper ?

I think they are reaping the results of producing huge tasteless watery lumps which have put people off. I buy quality potatoes by variety and always have a waxy and a floury variety on hand.

I saw a 12.5kg sack for £2-00 in Morrisons, yesterday.
Once or twice in an average week. Might have been more iften but rice & pasta need no cleaning/scrubbing. How expensive ? Who knows/cares. At the rate I use them I tend not to check.

a gut has accumulated

it certainly has in my house, but I think the Easter eggs are just as much to blame as the chips...
I have tatoes most days.
My Irish great aunt lived on mashed potato and cabbage, nothing else.
Would love to have a variety to hand but no storage and so much would go to waste.
I find they keep well in the fridge and the choice varieties mostly come in small bags. I have just finished some Albert Bartlett Roosters that I bought at Christmas.
Not here.
Roosters are the best potato in my opinion.
ummm apaches are pretty good too
