We've decided so it's more of a chat thing :) !

We bought a very expensive suite 15 odd years ago...it's still like new, we hate the colour.

We toyed with getting a new one, as we relaxed in our comfy, familiar chairs , looking at what was on offer.Wasn't happening :(

Then we thought....re-cover it !

Which is just what we're doing.

So we are having a total refurb with 100% handwoven lambswool in plaid/tartan and guess what?

It's the same price if not less than cheaper suites we were looking at.(It's contract standard)

Bit of a light bulb moment....anyone else decided to re-cover rather than buy another suite ?

This isn't advertising at all but can you imagine the dilemma choosing from all those fabrics......it's take me months and i'm still not sure !!

Just for fun for anyone who likes interior stuff ;)

Which one have you chosen, kylesmum ?.
Wow, some of these plaid design colours are beautiful. Had a really comfy suite a few years ago and always regretted getting rid of it - should have thought about recovering at the time.
Not re-covered, but I have replaced the seat foam which made it 'as good as new'.

Gone for this one as we have a navy carpet throughout and this has a navy stripe....could all change though !!

Cosy colours but i've still to see a bigger sample so it could all change. The choice is immense. That mill in Yorkshire must make a fortune !!
It's a nice warm looking plaid, kylesmum.

maggiebee....we are so glad we're re-covering.
I wasn't fond of the suits we could have...ours cost 4k so we were reluctant to part with it.Ideal solution and i'm in my element choosing what I can have ! All the domestic fabrics come in contract as well. Well worth it.

As an addendum...my Mum and Dad have a suite from pre 1930's (they're not) and they recovered it and it is the comfiest , hardest wearing suite ever !
Their upholsterer came up with the title of my thread, not that he knows it, but it's so apt !

Thanks Tony !
I'm usually a boisterous colourful person but I reckoned with tartan/plaid I had to subdue the the colours a touch. A suite in purple heather just might hurt my eyes on a daily basis lol !!

First time in my life i've gone subtle :)
tartan/plaid sofa's and chairs remind me of ' themed Scottish hotels.

Good thinking Ouzel. Mum and Dad have also done that.Mum went to upholstery night classes and managed to cover a few ! It truly does make sense.

Me too Anne. The guy who's doing ours does loads of hotels and bars.Lucrative business !

Our cats shredded the loose covers on our sofas - we decided to have replacement covers made, it would have been so much cheaper to have gone into one of those stores who have sofas constantly on sale than to have new covers made! We got the covers. The cats are in the process of shredding those, though not all of them are responsible I know which of the five are responsible ..
I used to be house proud, then we got cats!
I had new covers made for my suite about 20 years ago. I used a company whose name begins with P. It gave me about 8 more years with that suite.

I have one cat Nungate...he's a lazy so and so and even has his own bedroom. We're safe !! I can see where you're coming from though :) Wee devils lol !! Stick with the sofas you've got, the cheaper ons wouldn't have survived !
Caran....good to hear :)

I'm hoping others might think of doing what we're doing...the advantage is you can go for something totally unique. We just happened to fancy a tartan /plaid type.

I loved the raspberry/cream and eau de nil colours in plaid but I had to be sensible....another couple of grand on matching carpets to indulge me would be silly !

Line drawn in the sand ! :)
