When people say "snap out of it"...

Please dont ever say that to someone who is depressed!

Same as you cant SNAP out of diabetes... Its an illness.

I was of the old "pull yourself together" brigade until I heard someone on the radio once say "would you say that to a cancer victim" No I wouldn't say it again

We do rather see the world as some kind of Hollywood feel good movie. You have a abusive childhood you grow up and through circumstances you are lucky to meet a therapist played by say Robin Williams you see him for a few weeks and he says "it wasn't your fault" and then you move on with your life!

If you need me! You have never given up.. X

the grass is greener on the other side
i totally understand how you feel (coming from the happiest person in the world)
have you seen a doctor? The are very understanding

other 'nice' things people say:

What have you got to be depressed about?
Some people would give anything to have your life
At least you're well off and depressed think of those with no money in the same boat as you
How can you be depressed with a lovely new baby?

I've Had all these said to me and sometimes you believe it so really do try to buck yourself up rather than seek medical help because you are told you haven't the right to be depressed.

I know im greatfull for you all!!

Its so annoying it really sets me back

"You shouldnt depend on medicine"- tell that to a diabetic with insulin aswell then! Grr x
Tinkerbell,I had a friend who's mother was killed in a terrorist explosion. After understandably depression problems that went on,her gp,suggested that as she had only lost one parent in the bomb, and others had lost both parents, she should be doing better!
That's almost unbelievable but I don't doubt it is true.
When I lost a baby and had to have it removed. The surgeon came to see me before I was put under. He asked if I already had a children and when I replied 'yes' he said 'that's not too bad then'

She never went back to him! We've all experienced bad personal GP knowledge re depression, but, that takes the proverbial:-(
umm,I'm not surprised at all. I'm so sorry you had such an awful experience. Hope you had some help afterwards?
No, nothing. I left the hospital and haven't seen a doctor since.

It wasn't depressing in the true sense of the word but it was an extremely sad time, for all of us.
there is the "sands" site still birth and neo natal etc, just somewhere to discuss? Only a suggestion?
