Can anybody recommend a product for the removal of (dried in) red wine stain from a carpet.

By the way, it is a wool carpet.
I know some stain removers are ok for acrylic but not for wool.

I've had good results with one of those Hand Steamers.
Steam the area and then dab dry with a clean dry cloth.
Repeat this over & over until the stain is totally gone.

Failing that, contact the carpet manufacturer and ask what they would recommend to get the stain out.
