Our house is in the fields and there is a cattle water sink just beyond my kitchen window. I have noticed that one particular crow is using it as his own personal bath/spa! He regularly does the whole body dunking, wing splashing thing, and dries out and grooms on the nearby gate. All the other crows that feed in the fields ignore this sink, but,a local wood pidgeon tried to go there and the crow zoomed in on him big time and said pidgeon beat a hasty retreat! Our feathered friends are so individual!!

This doesn't surprise me as Corvids are reputed to be very intelligent - one ability they have is the capacity to remember and recognise human faces. I have been feeding 2 crows in our works yard for several years and they swoop down when they see me and in fact follow me around the yard. Then they stand nearby on top of the yard stock and protest loudly that they require food. They take the food and stash it away for later in gaps in the wall and under packs of stock. I know some people won't believe this but if I call these 2 particular crows and they are in the vicinity, they soon appear and repeat the routine as described above. Very clever !
Sharpest crow in the hood.......no doubt ;-)

Your crows sound brilliant paddy:-). Now that i remember, there was an experiment on tv a couple of months ago to see if a 2 yr old,a dog or a crow could figure out how to do a task after the man had done it first, and the crow achieved it every time! It'll be interesting to see how he fares when the swallows return;-)
