I thought multi-millionaires resident in the UK ..DID pay taxes.

Unworkable, ill thought out and STUPID.
Very good idea! Along with drug addicts and alcoholics.
A fat lot of good that will do!
LOL^^^
I understand it to mean that the people who claim sickness/disability benefit (whatever it's called these days) because they are drug addicts, obese etc would have their benefit cut if they did not get treatment.
Boto.

What is the treatment of obesity?
I don't think paying someone who is obese disability money would help them address the reasons or help them lose weight. Maybe a course of CBT and some help with diet and fitness would be more beneficial
They've got some chutzpah. The BBC has no peers when it comes to tax-avoidance.
If people use obesity or drug dependence as a reason for not working is it so unfair that working people(because, after all, that's where 'government money' comes from) ask them to undergo some treatment in return for funding their life-style.
The trouble with most treatments is that there is no guarantee of success...whether for obesity or substance abuse. Yes,there are addicts and alcoholics who want to quit, but the success rate for permanent recovery is not great. Its ongoing for most. The fact that someone is undergoing treatment/has a history, is a mark against them in any quest for employment, hence living on benefits becomes permanent...even if unwanted.
There's no penalty for unsuccessful treatment. Just that people should try it. Personally, I don't think it's too much to ask. Jobseekers are tasked to look for work.
The real scandal here is that the rich tax avoider isn't being prosecuted.
The thing about fat people is just an electioneering thing.
They do keep grinding away at the bottom.
But that's a different thread.
Attack the vulnerable yet again, uncaring Tories, the nasty party.

Oh so we just keep paying out millions and million of pounds in benefits to people who just don't want to work.

This country is massively in debt, and millions of people pay taxes on their income, so why should honest hard working people pay for others just to sit at home and do nothing.

For example this country pays of nearly 20 BILLION pounds a year in Housing Benefit.

What a totally stupid situation where any government has to pay out that much each year just to enable people to live in their houses.

Of course Labour are happy to keep paying out benefits to all and sundry (Labour are good at giving money away) but as soon as someone tries to reduce the benefits bill they are said to be "nasty".

If Labour stayed in power for 20 years we would soon be as bankrupt as Greece and then we would REALLY see benefits slashed.

I am glad the Tories are trying to do something about the benefits bill.
