I have read that not all fixed GATSO cameras have been located correctly, within the law; so they cannot be used as evidence in court.

Can anybody provide DEFINITIVE legal information?

e.g. the GATSO is not placed in a lit area?

That is why I asked the question.

I heard that fixed 'safety' cameras are only legal under certain rules.

I just wondered if anybody on this site knew what the rules are.

e.g. safety cameras must be visible.

Not as such - Department of Transport give out guidelines for authorities sighting fixed or mobile cameras. Unfortunately, the third option in the guidelines give the authority complete discretion as to where they erect them.

One thing I know that authirities must conform to is that there must be a sign close to the camera - not sute on the exact distance - you'd have to check.
