I don't see what costs that much but more importantly why is it necessary? In case he comes out so we can send him to the septics via the swedes?

Get rid of the highly costing police presence, let him come out and he will soon be caught just like any ordinary prisoner that absconds from open prisons etc.

I'm not sure what is more impressive: the amount of money spent on this or the amount of b*ll*cks talked about it by supposedly intelligent people.

Except of course when we catch him it will cost the country a fortune at the ECHR.
There was an Australian journalist recently released by the Egyptian authorities. He seems to have been imprisoned because they didn't like what he'd been saying and broadcasting. All this business about Assange seems to be based on the fact that the Americans don't like what he revealed with his scoop of the century.
(Sigh) I don't think there was any scoop with Assange. He took possession of stolen material and promoted himself as the Messiah of Truth and Justice by publishing it.
There is, to my knowledge, no evidence that the USA wants to extradite him

I wonder in fact why we don't just let him go. We've got ourselves into a situation where we've allowed Ecuador also to pose as the defenders of the oppressed and I suppose it would mean all that money would have been wasted.
