Notes in an Octave
Except that there are only 8 notes in an octave!

...but 12 semi-tones in an octave...

Maybe btut 12 semitones in an octave doesbn't fit.

I don't blame you for thinking that, the prefix "oct-" is a bit misleading in this context. In the diatonic scale, if you count both ends, there are 8 notes in an octave, but in the chromatic scale (the one that's almost universally favoured in the Western world) there are 12, not counting both ends.
