Well, my £9:99 NOW TV box arrived yesterday and I set it up last night. It wasn't quite as easy as it said it was going to be but as my techie nephew is in OZ, I ploughed on and got it done ! Well done to me !

I am impressed with the quality and ease of operation, which is available through its tiny little remote control. Very good value for £9:99 !

In order to get the thing working, I signed up for the first month's "Entertainment", for £6:99, which gives me all the iplayers, which is all I really need, plus other channels that I don't.

But I thought, from posts on here recently, that I could get those for free. Is there anybody on here today, that uses NOW TV, and doesn't pay anything per month, that can tell me how this works ? If I stop the £6:99 per month, from this time next month, will it still work ?

I am an ex-SKY user and signed on with my SKY ID. I still get SKY's version of "freeview" through my dish but no longer pay anything to SKY.

There is no mention anywhere on the NOW TV website about any free use. I am sure that Gromit said that he uses NOW TV, so if you are up and about Gromit, I need your help !

To access ROK's British Comedy channel, from the Home screen go right and then across-&-down until you reach 'TuneIn'. Press OK. Go to Search & press OK (twice). Use the keyboard (pressing OK after each letter you enter) to type 'rok'. You should then see 'British Comedy Channel - ROK Classic Radio' offered on the right, so go right and then down to reach it....

Writing as someone totally ignorant of Sky and Now TV, I do wonder what added value the box gives if all you want is iPlayer access.

OG....what I want is to be able to sit in my living room and watch programs on all the iplayers, on my large LCD TV, in comfort, rather than watch on the PC screen in my study.

I have quite a good PC monitor but its doesn't come near my 40" Samsung TV for quality. I am in the middle of watching "White, Angry and Proud" on the Ch4 iplayer, and the quality of the picture is really good.

But perhaps a discussion of this program would better in another section of AB !
I believe such a thread already exists.

Ah, ok, with the ability to make TVs "smart" was just surprised about adding a box.

Best of luck finding a non-subscription way to use it.
I didn't pay any subcription. You just need to set up an account. You can watch the i-player for free.

OG....my Samsung TV is now 7 years old. If I was buying a new TV today, I would probably go for a Smart TV, as these seem to be all things to all men.

I have had a quick look on Tesco Direct and I can get a 40" Samsung Smart TV for only £369, which is less than I bought my existing telly for !

Thanks Talbot.

So, If I cancel my £6:99 Entertainment package as from next month, I should still be left with the iplayers ....have I got that right ?
Yes, the main reason I got one was to watch youtube on the TV that isn't a smart TV.

You can obviously watch movies that are on youtube for free.
You can watch the iplayer without logging in but to watch sport or movies you do have to log in.
The basic functions of a Now TV Box work without a subscription. So, whether you pay or not, you'll always be able to get BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand5. You'll also continue to be able to get Youtube videos through the box. (It's a great way to watch them).

Further you'll be able to continue accessing radio channels from around the world (such as the wonderful ROK British Comedy Channel, with the Navy Lark, Round the Horne, Men from the Ministry, Hancock's Half Hour, etc) via the TuneIn app. (There are also some additional free special interest apps which you can add, and continue to use, available via 'Channel Store').

As you've probably found by now, the Entertainment pass gets you access to Sky1, Sky Living, Sky Atlantic, GOLD, Comedy Central, ITV Encore, FOX, MTV, Sky Arts 1, Discovery and three kids' channels. (It took me a while to work out how to find them though. Just in case you're still struggling, go to Now TV, up to Featured, right to Live TV, up to On Now and right to the individual channels).

It's worth noting that, due to licensing restrictions, a very small number of programmes can't currently be transmitted via Now TV (but they're working on it). Here's today's list of missing programmes:

Thanks Talbot ! I shall see how it goes these next 4 weeks with my Entertainment package. £6.99 isn't such a lot of money really and I might get to like it !

Even more thanks to Buenchico ! Goodness...everybody is so helpful on AB and ruddy quick !

Where exactly is the ROK channel ? Is it on the "free" bit or the Entertainment bit ?
Just a thought:
If you'd like a list of all the channels you can still get through your Sky box (without a subscription), it's here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_free-to-air_channels_at_28%C2%B0E
Be careful if you are on a limited internet usage package.
You already have a top answer here.
I will just chip in and say that we purchased a 47inch Samsung Smart TV and are absolutely made up with it. From Tesco £469
To access ROK's British Comedy channel, from the Home screen go right and then across-&-down until you reach 'TuneIn'. Press OK.

Go to Search & press OK (twice).

Use the keyboard (pressing OK after each letter you enter) to type 'rok'.

You should then see 'British Comedy Channel - ROK Classic Radio' offered on the right, so go right and then down to reach it. Then press OK.

That (annoyingly) doesn't take you straight there but to a group of channels including the one you want. So go left until you reach it and press 'OK'. Then press OK again to 'Play'.

You only have to do all of that once. The next time you go to TuneIn, that channel will be listed under your 'Favourites', so you can go straight there.

A cautionary note though:
Whether you access that channel via your PC or your NOW TV box it can take ages to load and the NOW TV box seems to give up trying. If your NOW TV box just keeps showing 'buffering' (after you've waited a short while for it to load), press up, followed by 'OK'. ('Buffering' will have changed to 'Pause'). Press OK again. (You'll then see 'Resume') Press it once more to get the station playing. That problem is related to the ROK server, not to your Now TV box.

Schedule here:
http://rokradio.com/british-comedy-channel-program-guide/
PS: The TuneIn app is part of the 'free' side of your Now TV box, so it works whether or not you pay a subscription.

JD....seems very good value for £469 !

I remember buying a 26" Sony Trinitron TV, back in 1988, and it cost nearly £600, a pretty big sum all those years ago.

I am going to give BA to Buenchico, but thanks to everybody else !
Was an offer £469, original price £599
We jumped at it
