Brocken Needle In Tummy

My OH was giving himself insulin shot in fat tummy and the needle broke off. We live very far from doctors (50 miles, USA) so it will be a few days before we can make it into clinic. I guess the scenario is from A to Z. I am more anxious than he is about it. What is the worst case scenario? Anyway I am trying to not to be a nag about this. According to my research on internet, it is somewhat rare. Is there anyone with experience with this?
You cant see where it is nor feel where it is. There is no mark showing even where it went in.

\\\\ What is the worst case scenario?\\

I don't think that there is one. Insulin needles are small and the injection is subcutaneous (beneath the skin),the amount of fat should guard against any deeper penetration into the peritoneal cavity (stomach). Is OH fat?

Make it to the clinic as soon as possible (couple of days wait should do no harm)

Interesting...if you were in the UK, you would be advised by ABers to "dash" to A&E..............just highlights the difference..;-)
I don't know about it being "somewhat rare" because the exact same thing happened to my OH a couple of weeks ago when he coughed mid-injection. He managed to dig the needle out himself with a pen-knife blade (caveman mentality!) though it did leave a nasty wound so I wouldn't advise the diy route.
I think the difference, Sqad, is necessity. Surely one wouldn't advise not to remove it as soon as possible so the body can heal and not further digging inside occur. That's what GPs and when they aren't available A&E is used for. But if that isn't possible one can live a day or two more with a needle inside.

I recall a splinter I had once, blooming large one, and I didn't know it was there. Days (maybe a week or two - I wasn't monitoring) I saw a small bulge on the skin, squeezed it and pus (or something) came out, followed by the tip of the splinter I didn't know I had. Made me shiver a little as I pulled out this long thing, but it had worked itself out.
O_G...........I understand and respect you line of reasoning.

If i was a casualty officer, I would care to go digging about in that set up......."like looking for a needle in a haystack "...;-)

I think that the body could do as good a job, if not better, in looking after the foreign body.
"wouldn't care"
And there was I thinking you'd gone all American on me.
LOL.

Thanks everyone! Yes my OH is on the very fattier side, a very big tummy.
Well, I will have to work on this. I will let you all know the results, when we figure this out. My OH is inclined to think nothing of it, so we will see who is right. I will have to bug him a bit more!
