I have received several emails from people and sources I have never heard of and never purchased from. They refer to my orders or payments being taken, that I know nothing about. I avoid clicking on links and check my bank account regularly but find no evidence of anything wrong. Do other Abers have this experience or know anything about these dubious people and their activities?

i've just been deleting emails from tracy smith who is sending me card receipts for payments I've made today....

one of my friends is in the ukraine & has had all his belongings stolen & wants me to wire him £2,250 so he can get back home & of course he'll repay me when he gets back, im generous i sent him £5k

You do right to avoid clicking on links. It's a scam, hoping to access your bank details.
I agree with previous posters.,delete delete delete . There are quite a few of these scams going around at the moment. Never click on anything.
They are scams.

I work for BT, and we have seriously sophisticated spyware on our networked PC's - they block a phishing mail and then send details to the recipient to warn them.

I have received three in the last three days advising purchases which I have not made.

Delete them unopened, they contain viruses.
obvious scam

esp the ones that say they have taken too much and you are due a refund (!!) um er yeah ...

dont answer - as that will make them send you more

Thank you. I suspected it might be a scam or something of the sort - at least I am not alone with it. Pity something can't be done to stop these nuisance people.
I never open those sort of e mails, if someone genuinely wants to contact you they'd use the old fashioned letter post.
My very elderly father keeps getting phone calls from people telling him that they have money to send him, I've told him that if he must reply he should ask them to put everything in writing.
Dick Turpin and his trusty computer
We get them as well, they just get deleted.
I get them too. The latest was a marriage proposal from a Russian lady- I an a lady!
"one of my friends is in the ukraine & has had all his belongings stolen & wants me to wire him £2,250 so he can get back home & of course he'll repay me when he gets back, im generous i sent him £5k"

Mccfluff...I had EXACTLY the same as the above when I was on holiday in Majorca last June,it proported to be from the lady from whom I rent a caravan every year.It also said that the British Embassy would not help them...this was the first thing that struck me as being odd!!!
First,I tried calling, her, then emailed ...nothing..I dd not know if it was genuine or not...thought it odd she was in the Ukraine when she had only got married the month before in Cyprus and had a big do on arriving home...
So,I emailed the Embassy ...got a reply that there were all sorts of scams going on...and that no-one of my friend`s name had been there.
I ws worried as I was thinking"what if it is true, and thay are stuck there..but no way was I sending that amount of money.
In the meantime,I finally got hold of her on the phone.

It is disgusting what people will do for money!!!!
snap! hi fluffy - i've been blocking an email from Tracey smith too today with the same things and an attachment to click on which i never do

Anna x
Yet the email had come from her email address...
I get occasional emails from Adrianna - supposedly we used to chat on Facebook etc.

Nice try - don't know any Adriannas and don't have Facebook.
mccfluff, that was very generous of you.
Well done!

Well I'm not impressed. Why hasn't this Tracey Smith contacted me? Perhaps she saw my thread last week about wanting another tenner in my pension and decided she won't be able to fly away to Rio with what she might scam from me.
