What kind of material is it? Is it plastic? leather? other? Is it detachable?Would it go into the washing machine? If you use a soap liquid, don't use a strong chemical one. Maybe a mild gentle one would do.

Lots of fabric /upholstery cleaning products in a spray gun at the local Bargain store/ pound shop....1001 spray very good..quick spray and jush around with a damp cloth !

i have two material armchairs and they do look grubby.
have taken off the top cushins and washed in machine, but theres no budging the ones you sit on. May buy some new ones in the N. Year.
