Wifi. Lost In One Room

The wifi signal in my sitting room has gone. It appears to coincide with the neighbours having work done installing a downstairs bathroom close to my sitting room. Is this possible or could there be another reason? I am not very good technically but can I just buy a wifi booster? If I do will it weaken the signal available to the rest of the house? Thanks.

Where is the modem/router positioned?

This sounds more likely to be a clash of wifi signals. If your neighbour has bought a new router and its signal is stronger than yours, it will be be knocking your signal out.

You have 3 options...

1. Re-position the router in your living room.
2. Change the channel the wifi is broadcast on. Your ISP will be able to guide you.
3. Get a new router.
Do you know the make and model of your modem/Router?

Hi Gromit. Thanks for answering. The modem is a Sky with Auto and SACGEM on the back. Can't see anything else apart from the password etc. It is in the room that has lost the signal and worked perfectly until the work started next door and my neighbour doesn't have a computer let alone wifi.

Sometimes the simplest actions are the best. My daughter arrived, switched off the modem and then switched it back on and hey presto everything works. Thanks Gromit for your help.
