Hi there: If you are perhaps wondering why there's no post (or very little filtering through) from or to South Africa, be aware that our two-legged runners (withand without their cleft stick) have been on strike for close on three months! Apparently the matter has been resolved but it's going to take ±10 weeks to sort out the backlog. Unfortunately that often means a lot of it gets dumped, the press over here (RSA) have pictures to prove it ... if you don't get/receive those Christmas cards timeously, you now know why!!

Thanks Lino, My sister lives in Boksburg and was waiting for the strike to finish before posting some photo's to me. Would you advise anyone to send post to SA bearing in mind the 10 week backlog? Jan

Thank you for that invaluable information.
Thanks Lino,

My sister lives in Boksburg and was waiting for the strike to finish before posting some photo's to me. Would you advise anyone to send post to SA bearing in mind the 10 week backlog?

my great uncle Joe was a commando in Boksburg during the unpleasantness a hundred or so years ago. One of his brothers died in Ladysmith on the British side
Small world Peter, although my sister lived there before I knew she was my sister. She was my Mother's first born and was adopted (usual story from the 60's Catholic single mum from Liverpool) when she was a few months old, by a family that were neighbours to my Mother. Mother then married my Dad and had me and two further daughters. Fast forward more than forty years and we find out we have another sister living in SA (her adoptive family moved there when she was 8).

We have met up a few times now and she and her daughter flew over last month for a surprise for my 50th Birthday. She was the official photographer at my party, hence the post comment.

Apologies Lino for hijacking your thread, somewhat :)
It is strike season. Always in the run up to Christmas everyone goes on strike.

Hi guys: We seem to have had 'strike silly season' for about two years now ... what with the platinum mines debacle; the government 'caved-in' (if you'll excuse the pun) and offered a wage increase percentage that the rest of the 'workers' in other industry's felt was rightly there's ... Would not advise posting anything - not even Christmas cards, because they probably won't arrive - if ever. Loved to read about other posts with connections to SA ... it's a small world, isn't it!! Kind regards ...
