I am considering buying a robot vacuum cleaner and wondered if they are any good. Any feedback would be great as they are quite expensive and I don't want it left at the back of my cupboard!

they are useless. I dont have one, but they are stupid. They cant clean things high above, corners and edges, and cant clean stairs. Plus, normal hoovers can let you have exercise!
Yes, it's yet another solution looking for a suitable problem to solve - and it fails.
On the other hand, a mate of mine has one for cleaning the fitted carpets in his living room and dining room, and he's chuffed to bits with it.

Thanks heathfield - don't suppose you know what one he has got do you ?
One of the big advantages is that it allows you to vacuum your rugs and floors every day. Your carpeting will look much better with daily vacuuming, and it will last longer, too. It also means the grit and dust that normally gets tracked in will be under control. If you have pets, having a robot vacuum cleaner vacuuming the house every day means having much less animal hair around the place. All pet owners get used to having accumulations of hair here and there around the place. With a robot vacuum the problem can be kept in check.
