I am a little hard of hearing. When my PC's volume is 100% I still have difficulty hearing it. Thanks in advance for any useful suggestions that might assist.

not wanting to sound like im taking the mick, but shouldnt you see your doctor for a hearing aid ?

could try using ear phones. would reccoment the larger ones that fit over the ears rather than the ones that go in the ears...

Rather annoyingly there are a number of places within Windows where you can set the volume and it can be on maximum in one place but be low somewhere else.

If you are on XP check on the right of the task bar and there may be a volume control. Right click on the icon and select "Open Volume Control". There are five volume controls for different devices.

Applications like Windows Media Player have also got their own volume control.

If you have external speakers they will also have their own volume control.

On the main Start menu there is a volume control option, It may be under Accesories and Entertainment.

Hopefully one or more of them should solve your problem.

Run the PCs output through your stereo, or purchase a cheap amplifier to run the speakers out of. this may need some extra leads, like a minijack to phonos, depending on the setup.

Just like vehelpfulguy said, there are several things that you have to be set to "100%" for the volume to be maximal.
Now once you have done that, if your PC has only an internal speaker, it still won't be very loud anyway, so you might have to plug some speakers or headphones, or even plug it to a stereo.

I had exactly the same problem with my laptop.

I find the sound is much louder and clearer through a pair of headphones that have their own volume control.

My headphones were under 20 with an attached mic - very convenient for Skype conversations.
