Samsung A800 mobile being very annoying!

Quite an old phone so I have lost the manual. For some reason it keeps making the text message noise and displaying an envelope with a letter coming out, but I don't have a new message when I look. The Inbox is not full up and I don't have any voicemails to listen to, it's driving me mad! Any ideas?

I had this phone and it used to do the same. take the battery off, take the sim out and put it all back together. should sort it!
