I never even heard of lovers rock.

Ahhh...John Holt. What a man.

Reminds me of growing up in the 70s. Many of my mates' mums had John Holt records. Lovers rock was absolutely huge at the time.

You actually have heard a lovers rock track, but probably didn't realise. The Tide Is High (a cover of the John Holt original) is 'lovers rock', although the Blondie version was slightly tweaked to make it more commercial.
I'm getting rather worried, there are people dying now who've never died before. All very unsettling.
sp I used to play his stuff for my children in the 70s and they all have his music amongst their collections today. Lovely memories. RIP John.
SP, The Paragons were a Rocksteady band not a Lovers Rock band. Rocksteady was the forerunner of reggae and only lasted from around 66 to 68. Another great Paragons track is Riding High on a Windy Day.

Thanks...you've inadvertently reminded me of a track I need to download tonight!
I must have missed lovers rock altogether; possibly I was at the hairdresser's when it hit. I do know The Tide is High, but looking through lists I have to admit that's the only one I ever heard of. Ah me, showing my age.

I do sort of recall rocksteady, though.
'Riding for a Fall'

an excellent record
