Help: Lost All Playlists And Song Data In Itunes

In an attempt to make my life easier, I have actually made it harder.

I had iTunes 11 and downgraded it to 10.7 as I wanted to make playlists more easily, and followed instructions on a blog ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4559563?start=60&tstart=0 ), anyway, it didn't work out, so I tried to go back to 11. The computer didn't like it, so I did a system restore to before I started. It restored iTunes to version 11, but I lost all my playlists. I attempted to import them from an XML file, but it only had a current version and no older ones exist. So I have lost all my playlists, song data and play counts.

I'm annoyed as I've had my iTunes for nearly ten years without fault, and have now lost all my data.

Any suggestions?

Your music files may still be there.

Find where your iTunes library is and see if the files are there. Don't worry if the filenames are weird - the actual tune data is stored in the file in its mp3 tags.

If you find the files you could copy the folder elsewhere on the computer and then reimport them into itunes.

There may be a way to automatically recover the library, otherwise try copying one file from your copy of the library into the folde "automatically add to itunes ". That should then get copied into the itunes library. If that works then you can do that for all your music - BUT you will end up with duplicate files.

What you could do, is once you've created your copy of the itunes library is move the original files in the library out of the library then add then to the "automatically...." folder - this will put them back into the library (as above but without ending up with duplicates in the library)
My itunes music is automatically saved in My Music on my C Drive, in a folder called itunes music. It does it itself. You can also contact iTunes and re-download all previous purchases.
