Just an observation....there is a new Lidl ad set in a market extolling the virtues of Lidl prices. At the end of it they pack the goods in bags with the Lidl logo and "surprise" the shoppers.

Thing is, Lidle don't do giveaway bags....you have to take them or buy them.

(Yes I know I'm sad, but even sadder is the fact that struck me as a random thought at half five in the morning)

haven't seen that ad yet, Posty, but I'm sure there are worse random thoughts to have at 5.30 :-)
Borderline false advertising and certainly deceptive. Maybe they'd argue that this showed a one off surprise rather than common practice.
doesn't everyone charge for bags in England yet?
No. The robbing Bs haven't managed to push that onto the public yet, surprisingly.
we've had it in wales for years now. I was against it initially but it does stop you wasting them.
:-) may stop you from wasting them. Mine are put to good use. If they charge it'll only mean we end up paying more, as usual.
Oh well, every Lidl helps. :-P

I was in McDonalds last week and picked up a leaflet informing me of a legal requirement to charge for paper bags from October up here in Salmond's Utopia. They further informed me that the money raised will go to their Ronald McDonald House project.
They've yet to solve the problem of scum launching packaging from moving cars though.
The Tesco bags fall apart after one use now, so you can't even (re)use them as bin liners. You might as well bring your own reusables and buy your bin liners.
How much do Lidl charge for bags?
If you have a tall kitchen bin, Lidl's liners are excellent. £1.49 for a roll last time I bought them.
They can get away with giving the bags away in the ad because it's not set IN a Lidls shop.
