I have full no claims bonus and have been driving for many years on my own insurance policy. I now have no need for a car and my insurance is due for renewal. I would like to know how I can keep that bonus when the policy expires if at all possible. I am also considering going on my husbands insurance as a named driver, would I then keep my no claims bonus because I was named on his insurance. Thank you

You can keep that bonus for 2 years (maybe 3 with a handful of companies) without a car but apart from that it's curtains
I think that insurance companies allow you to keep your NCB for 5 years if you do not have insurance in the meantime. But if you are a named driver , that counts towards your NCB as well ,so the time on your husbands insurance will be on your insurance record just as if you had your own.
^^ dzug it's longer than 2 years. I didn't have a car for 4 years and I still got an NCB. You need to keep the NCB certificate you get from your old company when the insurance runs out.
Looks like it's 3 years, scroll down to 'retained NCB'

But as I said being a named driver continues your insurance record and NCB.

thanks for ya help guys, feel a lot happier about this now. Just will feel strange not owning a car after so many years :(
Good idea to be a named driver on your husbands policy. As well as retaining your NCB you have a 'spare' driver if ever your OH does not want to drive or is unable to drive due to illness for example. It should cost very little more as well.
Buy a cheap old car you don't intend to use, tax & insure it then shove it in the garage for the duration. Unsure it's financially beneficial though.
i would feel like my legs had been cut off not having a car.....but i guess if I moved to a city with terrible congestion and extremely good public transport then I'd give it up
I'm not convinced about named drivers having NCB. I think it is the main driver only who gets the NCB.
Regards.
