Anyone else fed up with the amount of coverage of GCE exam results given on all the news channels today? Only their family and friends appreciate this exciting time for them, I'm not remotely interested, in my opinion, it just takes up valuable air time when it could be given to more interesting things - more coverage of the historic Lancasters and Vulcan flight for example, that news item only lasted less than 2 mins!
People came to Lincolnshire today from all over the UK, there was a family from Aberdeen and another from Romford, who had travelled miles to see this once in a lifetime opportunity, they could have interviewed them ........

What I do find strange is these days a lot of schools remove competition, ie no sports days, everybody is equal, etc and then come exam time and the best are lauded and the pupils with lesser grades are forgotten. Then after a few days it's back to "all pupils are equal" again.

Back in the 6o's we got a letter with your results and that was it,the thing that used to upset me was they always seemed to arrive on or about the 16th August,my birthday.I'm pleased for the youngsters who get good grades but it must be terrible for the ones who don't,seeing all the celebrations on TV
It's only 2 days a year and there are lots of other channels so no I'm not fed up.
Well, I guess the news channels should probably contact you first in future to make sure you find their news sufficiently interesting.

Seriously, try being someone who hates sport. There is no reason for sport broadcasts *every single day* yet still they come. They even have to make a special section for sport, because they can't go on the assumption that sport stories are interesting enough in themselves to be reported. You know why? Because they're not.
Doesn't bother me in the slightest, but I like Svejk's reply at 08:03.

Top marks to Vulcan! I could not agree more. The school my friend's grandchildren go to will not even acknowledge winners in the Sports Day races as it will hurt feelings of those not so sporty - which is crazy, what incentive to compete is there in that decision? They will all have to compete a few years later in exams so what about the unfortunate ones who fail, what about their feelings then after seeing all the "winners" paraded on TV! Doesn't make any sense to me - and that is my final word.
Sqad wykeham balme used to appoint member of the rugby club to HIS firm on the grounds there wasnt much between them and the prize winners.
Actually sqad in o levels if you went into it,
there were nine grades and six were pass and three fail -we neva understood why you need fail, bad fail and awful

I got 50 + 51 in quite a few of mine ( scrape pass )

You were right about the proportion - was it 20% did O levels of which 10% went onto A levels and the rest 80% left without any qualification or sign that they gone to skool for ten years

I thought that Tony Blair was quite right to aim for 50% to got to uni
