Can Some Knowledgeable Person Answer This Please?

In recent reports of high profile sex offenders, it was reported that assaults happened on persons under 18. I know assaults can and do happen to people of all ages but why mention 18? Isn't 16 the age of consent in this country? Can anyone explain please?

it is nothing to do with consent - people don't consent to being assaulted (usually) whether they are 17 13 or 45

I think because 18 is the age where you're considered an adult.

I think the confusion might have arisen from the difference in the age of consent for sexual purposes. It was always 16 for heterosexual activity, but when homosexual acts were decriminalised in 1967 the age was fixed at 21, although it has now been lowered.
