Nothing new. Every time I advocate the death penalty for the likes of Roy Whiting, Ian Huntley, Mark Bridger et al I'm reminded by the bedwetters that those behind bars will be suffering and deprivation will be upon them.
It must be tough getting 3 squares a day(with birthday cake when applicable), a roof over one's head and access to education, warm showers, TV and mobile phones.
The victims would turn in their graves.
These items were smuggled in not willingly let in by prison staff. I think there is a major difference...
that's pretty impressive smuggling - how about a bomb and blow a few up in there while they are at it.

I reckon the DVD player and Hi-Fi weren't smuggled in and the story claims the food was delivered.
And if a cake that size was smuggled in then the Prison Service needs more help than the Borders Agency!
Well, they do claim to be so under staffed in that prison that they can't do all the searches! If that is typical of our prisons then you may be right!

I wonder how 'privileges' is defined in prison speak?
the more I hear the more I am convinced we need penal reform, hang the swine saves employing extra warders, and no need to search visitors as they will not have any.
@ baza

Hang petty thiefs or just murderers?
just murders to start with, then pervs and work up from there.
Anyone who thinks they are holiday camps are at liberty to commit a crime and join in the merry-making.
Yes, it's most annoying that Butlins don't agree that prisons are holiday camps.
What I don't get is that if a cake was smuggled in, why did it not contain a file in the time-honoured fashion?

Could it be that joeluke is right and HM's establishments are quite comfy and cosy these days - so much so that escape from them is less important than having one's cake (and eating it)? :-)
Well they have dropped themselves in it now!
All four have been sent to the segregation unit , solitary confinement , locked up 23 hours a day , no TV not even a radio just a bare cell.
Plus the rest of the prisoners will not be happy as there will be a full lock down and body/cell searches. They will have lost the chance of early release on licence as well. They are NOT going to be popular once they get out of solitary.
Again there may be less to this than the papers would have you believe, the 'coke' bottle has almost certainly been purchased legally through the prison 'canteen' system and there is no proof the Kebab and cake photos were actually inside the prison. Having worked inside a prison I can't see it actually happening. It is possible to send food to a prisoner but it HAS to be sent via the governor who will get it inspected by the staff before letting the prisoner have it , so the cake could have been sent in legally.
A kebab would not be very appetising once it had spent a week or so going through the prison system.
NJ, maybe he did get a file but couldn't unzip it. I get a lot of those.
well, lets assume the juice/kebab/cake came from inside prison canteen...... do they sell mobile phones in the tuck shop ?
^^ No, mobile phones are illegal in all prisons in the UK. But they are often smuggled in , the normal hiding place is up a visitors bottom or 'front bottom' in the case of a female visitor! No jokes about setting it to 'vibrate' either!
I feel sure there must be many such jokes.
Oh so it's all ok then. The cakes and kebab were bought in the tuck shop and the phones up someones jacksie (I hope they bought an earpiece separately wouldn't want that close to your face!)

Get a life. UK prisons are a joke. We should start offshoring to Turkey or Thailand where they know how to run a prison. that would put a few off.

With regard to your smart remark OG, yes for ABers no doubt prison would not be so comfortable as home life but then I reckon everyone on AB(or the vast majority) earn their income legitimately and dont waste it on drugs, drink, gambling and prostitution and so can pay the bills reasonably easily. I would humbly suggest this is not the case for many inmates especially during winter months.
