This might seem like a silly question ( it sounds silly , but i've started so i'll finished )

On my car insurance policy documents , it states that there is an immobiliser fitted to the car .
However i wasn't sure if it also had an alarm fitted as well , so i did not say it had .

Reading the handbook again it appears that it may indeed have an alarm .

How would that now affect my cover ?

It might reduce the premium a bit - it's worth letting them know, IMO
BertiWooster, If it is bothering you give your insurance company a ring and tell them, just say that your car has all the security devices that it had when it left the factory.
However be prepared that they may have an admin charge to alter the policy, check the difference in costs.

Basically i 'd rather just leave things as is .
However insurance companies can be funny .

Would not declaring the existence of alarm at the start , invalidate the insurance ( this is why i said that this might seem like a silly quetion )
Ah, I see your point - doubtful I would think.

Saying you had when you hadn't would be different.
You make a declaration when you take out a policy that all the information you have given them is true to the best of your knowledge - you believed it didn't have an alarm at the time; you did not make a false declaration, so there shouldn't be a problem if you tell them now that there is an alarm fitted. In any case the car is safer from theft than you believed so they should not increase your premium. However Mamyalynne's caveat about charging you to alter the policy is worth heeding, so I think I would just let things be until next renewal and declare the alarm then.

When i spoke to the gentleman from the insurer , to transfer the insurance from my previous car to the present one ; i think i told him ( if my memory serves me correctly - i did talk about a lot of things ) that i was not sure if it had an alarm or not - so he should leave it stating ,only an immobiliser .

I could be wrong in my recollection though , of the conversation .

In any event whether i did or not , as i said i just wanted to sound you guys out as to your opinion as to whether or not the insurance documents not stating alarm is fitted, would invalidate the insurance , if i now tell them it has an alarm .
