I am fortunate to live at the end of a village with quite a large garden. Next to my garden is quite a large paddock which has not been tended for over 10 years. I need to get into the paddock and cut a strip of approx 50 yards by 5 yards of brambles, large weeds etc are they are now getting into my garden.

I want to purchase a chargeable portable brush cutter at a reasonable price.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,

Sounds a bit much for a battery powered cutter, think you'll need a petrol one for that sort of clearing.
Before you buy the kit, do you know who owns the paddock and have you got permission to go in and clear it?
That's a good point, Woofgang.
Bore Da Taff, have you thought about hiring a brushcutter from somewhere like Brandon Hire (Jewsons) (other hire shops are available) would be cheaper, I would have thought

I will probably take up the last suggestion. Diolch yn fawr.

Hiring a brush cutter you'd probably have to do a half-day Health and Safety course before they'd let you have it. Hirers do that if you want a chainsaw, for example. A bit daft, since you can just go out, buy one. and use it with no questions asked.

dont you know a friendly local farmer who can nip in there with his tractor and topper? 5mins and job done. failing that ask the land owner to sort it out
If you can spare the expense Taff, something like an 'Apache' recipocating sickle bar mower would seem ideal for the job.
Approx 3 or 4 runs up and down, along the fence-line a few times a season should be enough to curb the invasion.
Controlled fire or flame thrower.
And when you've done all the above and got rid of the foliage you'll still have the roots to remove or kill off,or they'll be back.Brambles and some weeds like nettles and docks can be a real pain in the arse to get rid off.
There will be lots of wildlife that has made the paddock their home so please be careful not to go cutting hedgehogs and other creatures in half or setting them on fire. Ta:-)
buy a sickle - its cheaper and you can cut the brambles off at the root
use gloves and then you can roll them back.

burn later ....
I used my petrol strimmer with a blade fitted, it worked a treat and cleared a 3rd acre paddock that nobody had touched for 45 years then went around with a mattock and dug out the roots.
I don't think that any regrowth will stand up to regular mowing and should in fact eventually, just fade away.
What about a decent herbicide?
Exactly Chipchopper, although we dug out a load of roots, I would get a few shoots come up through the grass for a year or so, then nothing!
divebuddy i like the idea of beating them lol almost as satisfying as throwing bottles in bottle bank .
