I have some webspace from my ISP and previously in the past I have created webpages using my family history program and uploaded them to my site.

To do this, I used something I downloaded but which was on a trial basis and now I have to pay. I don't want to pay if i can get the same thing for free.

Does anyone know what I am talking about and where I can download a free program to upload my pages to the web?

Apologies for the complete lack of technical jargon, I can't remember what the type pf program is called.

If you're talking about an FTP (file transfer protocol) program, there are lots of free ones out there. My preference is CoreFTP LE, and you can get the current version here: http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/downloads/2148401/core-ftp- 3c
As Mouse says, you're after an FTP client. My favourite is Filezille, because it's free software (as in speech and beer):
