Has anyone any ideas on the causes of fluid retention, other than the medical ones,my daughter has had this problem for the last few weeks, she has had all medical tests which have come back negative, she has been on h.r.t for a few years but the doctors have ruled this out,but she has reduced the doseage with the intention of coming of it anyway as it can cause retention.Unless she sleeps upright at night in the morning her face and eyes are very swollen.,also any ideas for duiertics other than prescribed .

Hi- Well Im not a doctor but my mother and I retain water very easily, and one simple cause of fluid retention is salt intake (sodium intake), and if she isn't drinking enough water then her body isn't flushing it's self out,- so all of these factors cause the swelling that you're seeing. So try cutting back on salt, and drinking more water (8 glasses a day, but even it out throughout the day, otherwise too much water at once can also cause retention as well). cheers
