Empty Folder

My download folder has changed it's icon and all the files within have vanished. Can anyone suggest ways of locating them, please?

I'm guessing that the folder hasn't changed its icon, but is a new one. Have you changed anything since you saw it last?
Can you remember the name of any file that was in there? If so, use the search function from your start menu, if you have one, to find that. And I'd bet that the others will be there as well.
