In a flower bed I have a "Red Robin" tree growing against and along a 2 metre high fence. I have been negletful and allowed it to grow larger than I want. I have reduced its height down to the top edge of the fence but its front face is overhanging the lawn edge. If I cut it back so that it is contained within the flower bed it will remove all its current red foliage and will then be just bare branches. Would it recover from such heavy pruning or would it be destroyed? All and any advice would be appreciated.

Photina, are very adaptable shrubs and take well to pruning, therefore I think you might get away with pruning it back, providing you don't take too much off in one go. About 1 3rd of the overall length should be a safe bet.
Hopefully you will be seeing some nice red regrowth.
I don't like mine and I'm always hacking it back hard but it just keeps coming back as strong as ever.
Mine was a 7' high bush and at least 5' wide I liked it but it got too big and unruly. Early this year it got the chop but being that all the leaves were at the ends I ended up with 3 x 4' bare sticks coming out of the ground. I was worried for a while but those sticks now have lots of red leaves on and I shall keep on top of it now. I wouldn't leave it much later to cut yours as you want all the new growth well hardened off before autumn and any frosts.
