Help please. On my Advanced Security Settings, I note the current owner on my computer has become: 'Trusted Installer'. Because of this, I am bugged by popups. I therefore need to change this to either Administrator or my own name.

Please, can any Abber advise me how to go about this. I would add the name is undeleteable! Hope it's a simple task.

You may have two separate problems.

'TrustedInstaller' is actually just an annoying part of Windows, which can be got round by 'taking ownership' of the files on your hard drive. See here:

Multiple pop-ups are usually the result of malware finding its way onto your computer. Download, install and run the free version of Malwarebytes:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/free/
Points to note:
1. When installing, take care to deselect the option to install free trial of the 'PRO' version ;
2. When running it, use the 'Quick scan' option ;
3. Don't be surprised when that 'quick' scan takes over half an hour to finish ;
4. When it does so, click the button to view the results, ensure that there's a tick alongside everything listed and then click the button to delete what's been found.

Hi Buenchico, I have Trend Micro Titanium Security installed and have run two full security scans and I am really surprised that the bugging still continues as I've always had great faith in this Company's security.

I have recently had lots of trouble with IE not working properly so I changed to Mozilla Firefox and I feel that it is IE causing the problem, but I will try what you say. Thnx.

A computer magazine recently reported on a study that showed that the very best computer security software currently available only blocks 47% of all threats. That means that over 50% get through. (Fortunately those threats are usually only 'annoyances', such as the ones that create pop-ups, rather than anything particularly nasty in themselves but they can then go on to get something really bad onto your computer if you click on a link from one of those pop-ups).

NO security suite can fully block malware. That's why you need the free version of Malwarebytes on your computer and you should run it every so often. (Alternatively you can use the paid-for version, which runs 'in the background' and checks everything as it arrives on your computer).

Hi again Buenchico, think I've beaten the problem now. Have noted all you've said. Think you're right! Also did another full scan plus a recovery.

I find the most annoying thing is when something (like Trusted Installer) just cannot be deleted. I'm hopeful for complete recovery now as I've been most the afternoon and some evening trying to get things back to normal. Thank you once again.
