This year we seem to be suffering a plague of slugs. Every night the patio is covered with dozens of them. It is doing Mrs Heep's head in and the constant moaning mine too! Does any one know of a sure way of getting rid of them other than beer traps? Using slug pellets is not an option as we have a dog, two cats and two rabbits which have the run of the garden and everything I have seen is harmful to pets.

You can get some stuff called "Slug Clear" (I think that's the name). It's especially good for paths and patios. You dilute it in water and spray it on. You only have to keep the animals off it until it's dry. Once dry it's harmless but does for slugs and snails.

Thanks for that NJ. I shall hunt around for it.

Thanks again NJ. I have placed an order.
Salt is the answer believe me it cheap and works.
Coffee grounds are good, as the caffeine is toxic to slugs.
Why not ask at your local Starbucks, they may give you some for free, as they like to be seen helping the local community.

Thanks Pega and Chip. I have used salt with some success in the past, will try coffee as an experiment. Hopefully the Slug Clear will arrive today so the war against the slugs should be won over the weekend.
I find if you squish one and leave the remains, the next night you will be able to squish / remove 20 from the same spot.
I find they prefer the remains of another slug to your veggies - try it.
