I have got adobe on my computer. Its always been there. Now suddenly it wont work. It keeps telling me there is a compatibility issue with windows 7. What can I do?

I would go into Control Panel and uninstall it.
I would then install the latest version from Adobe site

I'm pretty sure I've already tried that when it first happened but I will have another go and let you know how I get on.

YAAAY. Thank you. It worked.
It looks like you've solved your problem but I'll add that many people around here wouldn't touch Adobe Reader with any number of the proverbial bargepoles. It's horrid, clunky software that can take an age to open big PDF files. It's also well-known for countless security flaws, leaving your computer vulnerable to attacks.

The most popular alternative is Foxit:

but I use (the super-fast) SumatraPDF:
