I have a Samsung ue40es5000 LED TV using HDMI connection to a LG NB2520A soundbar. I have noticed that the volume is not as expected when watching FREEVIEW channels, however when using BBC iPlayer or any other LAN connection ie web browser through the SMART HUB the volume is considerably improved.
Is this normal and if so can you recommend a preamp to put between TV and soundbar, or would a fibre optic connection give a better sound output? Does the TV have a built in preamp?

Thanking you in advance

I realise this doesn't answer your query. For the sake of a few pounds I would try the digital optical cable.
