Now the sun has appeared briefly, my kitchen windows need a good clean. What does anybody find the best cleaning method without leaving smears? Thanks.

A tip from a friend's window cleaner is to wash with a cheap washing up liquid solution(not a thick one like Fairy) and then use a windscreen-type squeegee. Start from a bottom corner to the top of the window and then work downwards.
I've just bought a Karcher window vac and am happy with that.
exactly the same as trishy, washing up liquid, a sponge and a squeegee, top results for a fraction of the cost of window cleaning gunk in spray bottles
My window cleaner always said to use Fairy.

I wash them and dry them off with newspaper.
Wipe over with wettish heavy-duty E-cloth (just wet from hot water, no detergent). Dry with window/glass E-cloth. No smears and no chemicals. Magic!
window vac here too used with this

Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation
squirt of washing up liquid few drops of white vinegar ,rinse off and buff with newspaper ,gleaming windows .
forgot to say add liquid and vinegar to water lol
Get yourself a window cleaner - it's not expensive :)

On a serious note though, if you want to try the method used by window cleaners, using a squeegee, don't buy one of them squeegees for a pound - get yourself a decent one (cost approx a tenner ish).

Just use water and washing up liquid - about the same strength you'd use for washing the dishes, poss a little weaker.

I'm a window cleaner by the way :)
Karcher window vac - brilliant
I have just invested in a squeegie from Ebay and it is amazing I just use soapy water and take it off with the squeegie (is that the right name for it) its brilliant - otherwise I used to use hot water with vinegar and wipe it dry with newspaper for no smears
newspapers...wet and dry
I'm still of the old school liking old fashioned Window Cleaner [Reckitts I believe?]

I only have to worry about the inside as the outside are covered by our service charge.

Unfortunately we have a new window cleaner who uses that god awful water jet system. By the time the upstair apartment is done were drenched down below before they even start on ours. Its the messiest window cleaning system I have ever seen.
