We've had a customer friendly price war going on around our way for a couple of years now... Long may it last at 99p for fish & chips !!!!
...huge fish (they only do one size and if the fish happens to be smallish , they give you 2!!!) and chips 4.10...Arvonia Fish Bar, Pwllheli, North Wales...
Cheekychops, in Glasgow 'special fish' means cooked in breadcrumbs rather than batter. Here, in Partick, a battered fish supper costs 3.50 if you want 2 fish or 2.50 for one. Special fish is 50p extra.

Good answers here, thanks everyone - take a star! Or a pickled egg..........except waimarie - 99p for your tea means you can buy one for all the ABers!! Where is this abouts?

Shows that the prices seem to be farily well a much better buy around the country than any of the (processed) burger brands and you do get a meal that is proven better for you than burger'n'chips.

Does anyone like pickled eggs by the way? I mean when sober of course......and whats better, vinegar or brown sauce? (that should start something....)

'fraid I can't give be too specific with names nickmo as it would play havoc with house prices !! Can only say it's a well known place (no pun) on the east coast. I'll double check prices this weekend for any movement. No question though, it's always freshly cooked, a great meal and, with my figure, something of a treat.
...brown sauce...?....brown sauce ! ?....brown sauce..!!!!!!!!!!.... thats sacralige!...lashings salt and vinegar and the obligetary wooden fork (no plastic) and your fingers... sigh ...I rue the day they stopped using newspaper... sentimental old cow that I am...

Vinegar. Brown sauce is great but not on fish and chips. However, for me its salt and vinegar plus good old Tomato Ketchup (and it has to be Heinz).

Oh, how I yearn for fish and chips! Another half a stone away though!!!

And I want to sit on the sea wall at Wells next the Sea and eat them with a little wooden fork and fingers, just like Ermintrude 35.

Newspapers kept them lovely and warm and helped the recycling cause!

nickmo, are you from Edinburgh? It's the only place I know where they splatter your fish supper with salt and "soss" if you aren't quick enough to ask for vinegar. I prefer vinegar by the way.
nickmo, just realised that you used Edinburgh as an example in your original question - must learn to read.

Hi Gef - I'm in Edinburgh, and never have that soss - I gather it is watered down brown sauce, and that stuff is simply apple puree, caramel and vinegar in a water base, so no way is that geeting onto my food!

Middleton-on-Sea, West Sussex.

About 5.00 for large cod, large chips.

Kim A - I think thats the higest price so far, but not by much so it still looks fairly even round the country...
Here in British Columbia. Canada. on Tuesday you get all you can eat for $10.00 can.
