Hi, just wondered if anyone has travelled in a taxi with a baby. Does the taxi provide a car seat for the baby or for a child at all. Also when travelling abroad on holiday, if you hire a car, or travel in a taxi, what happens about children then. Do they provide child car seats for a year old baby?

My guess is that they dont. My daughter is worrying about travelling abroad in a taxi from the airport with her one year old daughter.

Interesting question. With hire cars you can book a baby seat when you book the car but have no idea about taxis as I rarely take a taxi. Does she ever take a local taxi and do they have baby seats?
I've heard that if it's a taxi, you don't need a car seat. I'm not 100% sure if this is true. But I've never had to ask.
I think Ellie is right.
i think you just have to hold your child
Last year we went to Gran Canaria with my grandson who was just over 1 year old. We had booked a taxi online and requested a child seat, which was provided on both journeys to and from the airport. We had a luxurious VW transporter all to ourselves!
When we flew to Florida we had 2 car seats. We put them in the hold of the aircraft.
Taxi's do not need to provide baby or child seats, baby has to sit on your knee. Not sure about travelling abroad, from what I can gather most people take car seat with them if the child is still in first stage car seat.
This site is quite useful for the UK. http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/law/

It says that if no car seat is available, children can travel unrestrained in a licensed cab or private hire vehicle. Assuming your daughter doesn't want to do this, I guess all she could do is book a cab in advance and request a car seat. I think black cabs, ie in London, have some sort of car seat available.
whatever you do DO NOT put the child under your own seatbelt
that is worse than having no seatbelt at all

if the driver has to stop suddenly the child will be crushed by your body weight against the strap

i am sure you already know this, but i am amazed at how many people do this and think its totally safe.
When you book a car inform about baby seat earlier and driver/company will provide it. But by default they do not have baby seat installed.
yes the new law does not apply to any public transport
including taxis
In taxi you don't need a child's seat. You must take care of baby by yourself, so sit her on your knees and travel in this way.
