I have recently purchased two DVDs but one is in 4.3 screen format and the other in letterbox format, what I would like to do is to copy both to recordable DVD discs to play in full screen 16.9 format, does anybody know of a free program download that will do this?

Doubt it - these are the ratios that they were filmed in.
If it is just for viewing then wouldn't it be simplest to change the aspect ratio for the display (monitor or tv)? There are usually several settings including auto, fixed 16:9 and sometimes various zoom levels for 4:3.
may have a problem with copyright as well
or play on vlc player

Thanks for your answers, I know there used to be a program called "ConvertX to DVD" where you could copy a disc but set the output format, I used to have it but have long since lost it, I don't want to get it again as it was pretty expensive the first time around and I would only use it once in a blue moon.
Have you got a Facility on your TV in 'Menu' whereas you can change Screen Format to 'Wide', 'Smart','Zoom', 16:9 etc ??
What happens when you play your 4:3 in any of those formats ??
