Is it a contract one?
Plug the dongle in and you should get a pop up box asking you to make a top up payment.
No reason why it shouldn't work
beez ..doesn`t say if it is a Pay as you go type,if it is ..hc is correct,if it is on contract should have no problem using it
I have a PAYG O2 dongle. Don't use it very often but I did buy credit for it last week for the first time in about 9 months. Worked fine. Just depends on your package/contract.

Yes it can work, just call dongle customer service and tell them dongle IMEI or sim inserted in it and ask if it will work when you recharge it, or you can visit any customer service center.
Just plug it in and see what happens.
Enter the postcode of where you will be staying to see if O2 will give you good coverage:

Every mobile broadband provider has such a checker on their websites. If 02 is no good, try 3
